Father’s Day 2025 “Generational Trauma of the Gods”

Sunday June 15th is Father’s Day in US, and it will feature conflict between the astrological father-son duo of Saturn and Jupiter. These two already have a conflicted past, and this weekend may add fuel to the fire. So let’s take a look at their mythical backstory and see how generational trauma may be at play.

Saturn was king of the gods and he feared a prophecy that one of his children would usurp his throne. So he swallowed his children as they were born to prevent this fate. Of course, the mother, his wife, Ops was understandably upset after this happened a few times and when Jupiter was born, she hid him and gave Saturn a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes to swallow which he did. It caused him to regurgitate the previously swallowed siblings and long story short, Jupiter over threw Saturn and became king of the gods, thus fulfilling the prophecy

Before we judge Saturn too harshly, I need to tell you about Saturn’s dad. Saturn’s dad Caelus was king before Saturn and received the same prophecy that one of his kids would take his throne, so he imprisoned them in the earth. And you guessed it, his wife, the mother of these children, helped Saturn break free and overthrow his father. I’ll spare you the details but sufficed to say, the prophecy was fulfilled.

So you see how Saturn was traumatized by his father and proceeded to inflict the same trauma upon his son, possibly with no awareness at all.

I wish I could tell you that Jupiter broke the tradition, but it seems he too heard the same prophecy and took measures to prevent the birth of one of his children. Although his measures were unsuccessful, this child did not usurp him, but that notwithstanding, you see how the story of this divine lineage reflects the human experience of generational trauma.

This Sunday on Father’s Day, the Saturn/Jupiter duo will be located exactly 90 degrees apart on the zodiac, an aspect known as a square, which is a “hard” aspect. Squares tend to create tension, conflict or just discomfort that forces us to act to try to resolve. You can see how this angle may add fuel to the fire of this already conflicted pair.

So this weekend may be a good time to be more mindful of the ways we may project, rather than process our traumas, and the vulnerabilities and insecurities that follow, onto others, especially our children and those we love. Please keep this in mind as you go through the weekend and try to be kind and compassionate to all.
